Alteo Energy Limited
Alteo Energy has been in operation since 1984 and is a pioneer of the co-generation technology in Mauritius. It operates two coal/bagasse power plants of 19 and 22 megawatts respectively and supplies a total of 160 GWh to the national grid annually.
Following the closure of the DRBC sugar factory in early 2014 and the recent capacity expansion of Alteo Milling, Alteo Energy has benefited from the significant additional bagasse available. Today, about half of its production is generated from that renewable source of energy.
This development not only ensures a healthy income stream to the operations in the short to medium term but places Alteo Energy in a position to consider the setting up of a new higher efficiency power plant in years to come when its current power purchase agreements with CEB expire.
